  • Strictly Judge Len Goodman has never eaten spaghetti or had a curry - now chef Ainsley Harriott is taking him around the country in a bid to educate his palate.

Popular Cardiff based, Italian restaurant, Giovanni’s Park Place, was especially selected by BBC producers to feature on BBC1’s, Big Food series, starring celebrity chef, Ainsley Harriott and Strictly Come Dancing Judge, Len Goodman.

Known for his fussy eating,  Len has never eaten spaghetti or had a curry so, Ainsley Harriott, took him on a tour of the UK to open his mind and encourage Len to sample some of the best foreign cuisine the country had to offer. It was the responsibility of Giovanni and his team to introduce Len to a ‘taste of Italy’.

The family run Italian restaurant was approached by the BBC after careful consideration and is the only Welsh restaurant and only Italian to feature on the series.

Founder of Giovanni’s Restaurants and local entrepreneur, Giovanni Malacrino said: “It was an honour to give Len his first taste of real Italian food. There is a thriving foodie culture in Britain at the moment and Italian has been a popular cuisine in the UK for many decades, there are so many wonderful Italian resturants in the country so to be considered as Italian worthy of educating Len’s palate is high praise indeed. Showcasing our Cardiff Restaurant on national TV also puts the city on the map and we’re proud to represent the ‘Welsh Italians!”

Born in Grangetown Cardiff, to Italian parents, Giovanni Malacrino, founded his first Italian restaurant, Giovanni’s on The Hayes in 1983 and it now stands as the oldest established family owned restaurant in Cardiff City Centre. In 2013 Giovanni opened, Giovanni’s On Park Place, where filming took place. Park Place specialises in authentic Italian cuisine with an empathise on fresh seafood dishes.

BBC Big Food featuring Giovanni’s Cardiff, first aired on BBC1 on Thursday 26th November, and is now available to watch on BBC1 iPlayer
